MK Go! Artefacts Yay!

We went up to Milton Keynes today (http://www.discovermiltonkeynes.co.uk/exhibitions/31/31.html) and installed the student and teachers super creations from the Artefacts project. The project involved The Museum of Reading and Arts Council England. Wilson Primary School and St Martin's Primary School used the objects from the museum as starting points for a series of creative enquiry sessions.

The work speaks for itself. It is AMAZING!!!!!

Freshen Up INSET

Staff from St Martin's Primary School in Caversham spent a day at Open Hand Studios. They got to grips with new techniques that will feed back into their teaching practice with help from artists Kate and Jon Lockhart.
As well as touring the studio and meeting artists at work, the teachers enjoyed hands on printmaking and feltmaking workshops, whilst discussing thematic approaches for the classroom such as 'Mantle of the Expert'. One member of staff commented that: "It was the best INSET that I have ever been on"

Modern Art Oxford's Inter generational project continues with great aplomb and enthusiasm. Yesterday we met a group of tremendous and amazing older participants who shared their thoughts, their humour and their boundless generosity with us all. Open Hand Open Space Studios and Thinklockhart have been leading a season of twilight teacher training sessions. The sessions are a strand of 'Artifacts' an Arts Council England and Reading Borough Council initiative to work with Museum collections, artists and schools.

Each week, staff explore materials, techniques and themes that directly relate to their classroom practice whilst also enabling the development of their own creativity.

Lost in Time and Space

Thinklockhart are working with Modern art Oxford, film maker Nicola Armitage and writer Samina Baig on this fascinating inter generational film project. Participant's range from young people who are not in education, employment or training to older people who have Alzheimer's disease. The project will culminate with the production and showing of a film about perceptions of Oxford. The final work will have been created through the collaboration between the two groups.

Addington Special School, Reading, Berkshire

We have been working with Addington on their display and school environment. The Creative Partnerships project asked how we could make the new school building a cherished and valued space to learn in. We helped students to use lots of materials and started to design amazing wall displays.
These wall displays were made in self adhesive vinyl, making for some spectacular pieces of work around the school.

Henley Guild of Artists

A spectacularly sunny day helped to make today extra special. We spent some time over at the allotments in Henley, sketching and painting. In the afternoon we set up a makeshift print studio, where we created plaster cast block print carvings and dabbled in some spontaneous mono printing. Yes!

Junk Story 3

This week we have been mostly making food, giant food! In the third outing for the ecologically aware Ranelagh School, Bracknell Junk Story 3 picks up where Junk Story 2 left off. The play is set in a fridge and was aimed at Primary School audience members who watched as the fridge people explored why us 'big humans' threw away so much perfectly good food.
Thinklockhart worked with A level students to produce the sets which consisted of giant tins of food and a block of cheese that comfortably held two cast members!

The dens have landed in Oxford!

A busy, busy week exploring listening, story telling and mark making over at Grandpont Children's Centre in Oxford. We created three special outdoor dens which contained plenty of adventure for all who attended.
Participants helped to design and build the spaces and at the end of the week we had a couple of super days (including a BBQ session as part of the centers programme of activities) where we linked the spaces with sounds including attaching microphones to the building so that we could play it!
Big thanks to all involved, it was super. As one visitor said "It's amazing what you can do in a small space, when you have a big imagination"

Norcot Under the Sea Garden Opening

We have been busy 'under the sea' with Reading Borough Council and Arts Council England at The Norcot Early Years Center, Reading. Over the course of several months we have worked with the children and parents at the center to produce a stunning outdoor musical play garden. Thinklockhart created a sunken pirate boat, percussion walls and a splendid all weather vinyl mural from the children's artwork.

To celebrate the art work that Thinklockhart has been doing over at Wilson Primary in West Reading, we had a super exhibition. All children, parents and staff were invited to look at the superb artwork that was created and to share the adventures that we had all embarked on during the project. Funded through RBC and Arts Council England, the project explored Wilson's place in the wider community in which it is located. We worked offsite at The Battle Library as well as staff training over at Open Hand Open Space studios in their community and outreach space.

Thinklockhart and the UFO Mystery: The Parkhouse Chronicles

The aliens are coming? Intrigue surrounds an alleged UFO sighting over at Parkhouse School Newbury this week. The current Creative Partnerships project that Thinklockhart is working on just went interstellar as the students have begun to conclude their extensive research and investigation. Films, photos, drawings and written evidence will all be collected and presented towards the end of term in order to solve the mystery once and for all. A working research lab is also planned. Watch the skies!!!!

Cutting and sticking just got high tech with Thinklockhart and the super students of Wilson Primary School. We have been creating mini beast murals with self adhesive vinyl. These sticky beasts will be put on to plastic and displayed outside for everyone to admire and enjoy.

Thinklockhart helped Clarks Legal to launch their charity evening this week. A new installation of artwork at their Covent Garden office by Thinklockhart artists really brought the rooms to life.

Make me a River!

At Wilson Primary this week making a working river with Year 6.
We explored how to make a river, including all the features necessary including a meandering river bed, a waterfall source, a lock, some bridges and we even had a pump to make the river flow!
It was a super busy day and the outcome was amazing.

Egyptian Shaduf!

Working at St Joseph's Primary School today and we have been trying to build giant Egyptian water collecting machines called Shaduf's. The year 3 students could really begin to understand the forces and technical skills needed to create these early water moving machines.

We held an art session at The Battle Library on Saturday 29 January (the first of a schedued 3) as part of our work with the recently ranked 'Outstanding' by Ofsted Wilson Primary School in Reading. There were over 55 participant's which was a super success. Huge thanks goes to Marjorie and staff at the Battle Library for their continued and inspirational commitment to the community in which they work.

A superb day was led by Nick Garnett and his band of performers who took the students on an amazing adventure using performance, sculpting, video, sound and dance. Following on from Kate Lockhart's inclusion in a group show of work at St Paul's Cathedral, The Reading based artist has been invited to show her entire 360degree panoramic view of London at the prestigious London venue.

Kate is overjoyed by the opportunity of seeing the work together for the first time.

The exhibition runs until the 25 November.

The waiting is nearly over. Six years of tremendous painting hard work has paid off. Next Monday sees the opening of St Paul's in the 21st Century over at St Paul's Cathedral. The People's Museum

A project two years in the making finally went live this week. The People's Museum for Bracknell Forest Council invited people to bring along an object of sentimental value and have it photographed. Everyone was then asked to draw the object and write a little something about it. These drawings were then scanned in to the computer and arranged on roller banners to become The People's Museum. The project will tour venues in and around the region. A publication is also available.
